ON THE ROAD
How this lane runs.
LTC Logistics runs container transport Rotterdam-Duisburg as a fixed daily lane. The truck leaves Rotterdam in the early morning and is in Duisburg after about 4.5 hours on the road. The same planner and the same terminals every day, and you know the cut-off well before departure.
Rotterdam-Duisburg is the backbone of our planning. Every day a truck leaves the Rotterdam quay in the early morning and, via a stop in Venlo, is in Duisburg a few hours later. It is the route we have run in the same rhythm the longest, and so the route where the fewest things go wrong.
This lane is used mostly by shippers and freight forwarders with recurring volume. Think of manufacturers sending several containers out of the port each week, and importers who need to be at the Duisburg terminal on time for onward rail or barge transport further into Germany. For many of them Duisburg is not the final destination but a transshipment point, and then every delay counts double: miss the connection there and the whole chain slips a day.
A fixed lane only works when the basics are right. VGM, the verified gross mass of the container, has to be known before loading. Without VGM data a container will not be admitted to the terminal, however tight the rest of the planning is. So we ask for those figures early in the process, not on the day of departure.
What goes wrong on this route usually goes wrong at the start, not on the road. A terminal running behind on clearance, a container released a little later than planned, a chassis that is not yet available. Driving time between Rotterdam and Duisburg is predictable; the first two hours on the quay are not always. So we deliberately keep margin in the plan and call the terminal directly the moment something threatens to slip, instead of waiting until the truck is already late.
Because it is our busiest lane, the full range of equipment runs here: dry containers in every size, reefer with own genset for chilled cargo, and ADR-certified transport for dangerous goods. A factory shipping dry cargo one week and an ADR class the next does not have to switch carriers to do it.
Between Rotterdam and Duisburg there is no border that counts for the road transport itself: both points sit within the EU, so the trip needs no export declaration. For cargo still under a T1 document, customs clearance happens at the terminal in Duisburg itself. That saves time compared with a lane where the container still has to stop at a separate customs post.
Duisburg is also where we can best show what a dedicated planner means. The same person who takes your request today still knows tomorrow which terminal had which wait. That is not an extra service we sell; it is simply how a lane you run every day gets better on its own.
For freight forwarders buying this lane on behalf of their own customers, what matters most is whether a commitment actually holds. So we do not plan around a single truck per day, but around a fixed charter pool we deploy on this route. If a charter drops out along the way, due to a breakdown or a full queue at the terminal, another one steps in, rather than the whole day sliding. It is also why this lane suits urgent requests: we know exactly how much margin sits in the timetable before a delivery is genuinely at risk.
EQUIPMENT
What we can carry.
- Full equipment, from 20ft dry cargo to 45ft HC, reefer with genset, open top and flat rack.
- ADR available, certified transport of dangerous goods on the same daily service.
- VGM on time, send the container weight in good time and the truck makes its slot.
- Roundtrip or one-way, we plan return cargo where possible, so you do not pay for empty kilometers.
QUESTIONS
Common questions.
How often do you drive Rotterdam-Duisburg?
Daily. This lane is our fixed morning run: an early departure from Rotterdam, arrival before midday in Duisburg. Because we run it every day, we know the terminals and the usual waits well, and we can usually schedule a request the same day.
Do I need to account for customs between Rotterdam and Duisburg?
Not for the road transport itself: both places sit within the EU, so no export declaration is needed. If your cargo is still under a T1 document, customs clearance runs through your freight forwarder or customs agent; the responsibility for it sits with you. We issue the CMR for the road leg and make sure the paperwork travels with the cargo.
Can a container go on from Duisburg by rail or barge?
A container in Duisburg can move on by rail or barge without trouble, and for many of our customers that is exactly why they choose this lane. Duisburg is a large hinterland terminal with rail and barge connections. We make sure the container is there in time for that connection; you arrange the onward leg with your own forwarder, or we can help you work it out.
