ON THE ROAD

How this lane runs.

LTC Logistics runs container transport Rotterdam-Venlo as the first stop on the daily run into Germany. Within about 2.5 hours the truck is in Venlo, in the heart of the Dutch greenport and transshipment region, with a fixed route and a planner who knows the region, every working day.

Venlo is the first stop on our fixed morning run into Germany, not the last. The truck that leaves Rotterdam at 04:30 reaches Venlo about 2.5 hours later, before driving on to Duisburg. For cargo unloaded in Venlo itself, that means an arrival early in the day, well before most other containers reach the region.

That early arrival is exactly why shippers in this region choose us. Venlo is one of the largest transshipment and distribution hubs in the Netherlands, with many businesses in horticulture, food and retail distribution that need containers early in the day to process them further the same day. A container that only arrives after lunch is already a problem for a distribution center with an evening schedule.

The greenport region around Venlo runs on precision: flowers, vegetables and fruit move on through the cold chain, and other cargo has to connect to rail or barge transport that keeps its own timetable. Our reefer with own genset keeps the temperature protected through the last stretch of the trip, even when unloading at the terminal takes a little longer than planned.

Because Venlo is an intermediate stop on a longer run, the margin here is smaller than on a lane where the destination is the endpoint. A driver held up in Venlo is not only delayed here; he also misses his connection on toward Duisburg. So we plan this stop with room to spare: better to arrive at the terminal a quarter of an hour early than to miss a connection further down the run.

For shippers whose only destination is Venlo, none of that needs to make a difference. You get the same dedicated planner and the same daily service as on our other lanes, only with a shorter driving time and an earlier arrival. Ship to this region regularly and that early arrival simply leaves you a day of planning room in hand.

Equipment on this lane is the same full range as on our other routes: dry cargo in every size, reefer, open top, flat rack and ADR. For Venlo we ask about reefer a little more often than on other lanes, simply because the region handles a lot of temperature-sensitive cargo.

Venlo is also one of the few places on our routes where return cargo is regularly available, precisely because so many distribution centers there also send containers out themselves. A truck that arrives with import cargo in the morning can head back to Rotterdam with export cargo the same day. For shippers who run this lane structurally, that lowers the price, because we do not have to cost the trip as one-way traffic.

Unlike our German lanes, Venlo remains a domestic trip: no border, no different paperwork, and plain Dutch for the driver. For shippers moving containers for the first time, that is a comfortable first step: the same arrangements and the same documents as a domestic trip, only with a sea container as the load.

Anyone requesting this lane notices above all that we ask a little more precisely about the delivery address than we would for a larger city. Venlo is made up of several business parks and distribution estates side by side, and on the road it makes a real difference whether a container is due at one park or another. We would rather ask that at booking than once the truck is already on its way.

EQUIPMENT

What we can carry.

  • Early arrival, first stop on the morning run, suited to shippers who want to unload early in the day.
  • Reefer with genset, temperature protected right up to the terminal, relevant for the greenport and food logistics in this region.
  • Rail and barge connections, Venlo is a transshipment point; we make sure the container is there in time for the onward leg.
  • Full equipment, open top, flat rack and ADR can all run on this lane too.

QUESTIONS

Common questions.

What time is the container in Venlo?

Venlo is the first stop on our daily morning run, arriving around 06:50. That is early enough to unload and process the container the same day, which in this region often makes exactly the difference between on time and a day late.

Can you run reefer to Venlo?

We run reefer with own genset on this lane. The temperature stays protected all the way to the delivery address, even with a short wait at the terminal or a slightly later arrival than planned.

Is Venlo only an intermediate stop or also a final destination?

Both. For many shippers Venlo is the final destination: the container is unloaded there and processed locally. For other cargo it is an intermediate stop on the fixed run toward Duisburg. Tell us which applies when you send your request.
