Reefer transport Rotterdam

Cold chain secured: own genset, pre-trip inspection and a planner who guards the temperature.

  • OWN GENSET
  • PRE-TRIP CHECK

IN PRACTICE

This is how we work.

LTC Logistics runs reefer transport from Rotterdam and Antwerp: its own genset on board on every trip, so the temperature stays secured from quay to customer, even on longer runs to Germany, Belgium or France.

Temperature-controlled transport takes more than a cooling unit. The container has to be right before loading, the genset has to keep running, and the temperature has to be measurable at every point of the trip.

The reefer containers we plan run with their own genset on board. That genset runs independently of power on site, which means the temperature does not drop once the container leaves the yard or stops along the way.

Before loading, every reefer gets a pre-trip inspection: cooling unit, doors, seals and temperature setting are checked. A container that fails the pre-trip does not hit the road with your load inside.

If the load is booked in on time, we plan the trip for the next day, depending on destination and terminal. A tight cut-off is no reason to let the temperature monitoring slip.

You supply the required temperature setting and, where relevant, ventilation instructions. We set that temperature on the cooling unit and check it at the pre-trip, so there is no gap between what was ordered and what actually runs.

Fresh and frozen call for a different approach. With fresh produce the margin for temperature deviation is smaller; with frozen, what counts most is that the chain is never broken. Both run on the same genset and the same pre-trip inspection, with a setting that suits the load.

On longer runs to Germany, Belgium or France the genset simply keeps running. The trip takes longer, but the temperature monitoring does not change: the same check at departure, the same monitoring along the way.

Reefers need more preparation time than dry cargo: loading, connecting and checking all take time. Book in later and the trip moves to the next available slot; the pre-trip is never skipped.

We sometimes combine reefer with a share of dry cargo on the same trip, as long as the temperature-sensitive container keeps its own genset. That takes discussion up front, so the planning and the cooling setting line up.

During the trip we keep an eye on the temperature. If there is any doubt about a setting, the planner gets in touch, not only once the container is already at the customer.

You call your dedicated planner, who already has the reefer, the genset and the cut-off in their head.

QUESTIONS

Common questions.

How is the temperature monitored during transport?

Every reefer container runs with its own genset and a set temperature that is measured during the trip. Before loading, the container goes through a pre-trip inspection, so the cooling unit and setting are right before the load goes in. If any doubt about the setting comes up en route, the planner gets in touch with you directly.

Do you also drive reefer to Germany and Belgium?

LTC Logistics drives reefer containers from Rotterdam and Antwerp to destinations in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France. The genset keeps the temperature secured, even on longer runs. Our planner matches the trip to your cut-off and the destination.

What happens if the cooling unit malfunctions?

A reefer that fails the pre-trip inspection does not hit the road. En route we monitor the temperature: if anything deviates or doubt arises about the setting, the planner gets in touch right away instead of waiting until the container is at the customer.

What do I as a shipper need to supply for reefer transport?

You supply the required temperature setting and, where relevant, ventilation instructions for the load. We set that temperature on the cooling unit and check it at the pre-trip, so the container leaves with the right values. If you change the setting after the request, pass it to your planner in good time.
